The Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis was written for people who are involved in research on the mind and brain or wish to improve therapeutic efficacy. It lays out the functional network of neural transmissions, clarifies psychic phenomena, and establishes related therapeutic theory by associating psychic movement (psychodynamics) with brain research. In so doing, this volume presents new information and introduces an approach to research and practice that go way beyond the contemporary norm. Some have called
this approach revolutionary.

Part 1 on Emotion Control Theory validates the connection between thepsychodynamic origin determining mental health and disease and brain research, making clear the rule of neural transmissions in the emotional brain.  Almost all psychic phenomena can be explained on the basis of these results. Particularly noteworthy, this research has clarified the cause of psychosis and has established the radical treatment that is most effective.

Part 2 on Formation Theory of Psychological phenomenona contains a great deal of information, including explication of the mechanism of consciousness and self-consciousness, elucidation of personality alteration, and scientific explanation of enlightenment.

Part 3 includes case studies on a situation that leads to a definition of forgiveness, obsessive-abortive personality disorders as new personality disorders, as well as the radical treatment of manic-depressive disorders and schizophrenia (5 to 6 years with 1,200 to 1,300 hours required for the treatment).

The theories have been very rigidly and precisely developed. To understand them fully might be a serious challenge, but if you are an expert in the field of psychoanalysis, this book ought to have considerable impact.    The psychoanalytic principle with two kinds of displeasing emotions and the mechanisms of forgiveness and help correspond to the neural transmissions centering around the reward system in self-stimulating behavior. The functiona network of neural transmissions in the emotional brain is possible to be formed based on the correspondence.

This network clearly distinguishes between disorder formation and symptom formation. Disorder formation is categorized in accordance with four models of mental structure (psychic states, pathological states of the aggressive system, pathological states of the fragile system, and defensive states) induced by the functional network of neural transmissions in the emotional brain. People who present normal mind belong todefensive states. No disorder has a specific cause of its own; for example, there is no single, specific cause of schizophrenia. The disorders that are collectively known as schizophrenia are understood as one state of deviation from normal mind (or dysfunction of normal mind). They are generated by the same mechanisms that cause manic-depressive disorders, pathological states and others, even when there is variation in the specific ways they deviate from normal mind (or dysfunction of normal mind).

Symptom formation is also understood as a paralyzed state in the normal functional network of neural transmissions in the emotional brain. The normal neural transmissions into the cinflict-free area cannot be found. It leads to the psychodynamics which involve the whole brain centering around the perception system, the thinking system, and so on. Therefore, it is necessary to form the functional network of neural transmissions in the whole brain. The functional network of neural transmissions in the emotional brain naturally has constant influences on the functional network of neural transmissions in the whole brain. Its power of influence is reflected in, for example, a mode of self-consciousness, or reality testing induced by recognitory formation.

                                              The Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis

Radical psychoanalytic therapy

A new therapeutic structure, which is entirely different from conventional hospital and ambulatory treatments, is required when patients in pathological states (severely disturbed personality disorders) or psychotic states (schizophrenia and manic-depressive disorders) are given radical psychoanalytic therapy. In this new approach, a single patient simultaneously receivesdouble psychoanalysis. Two psychoanalysts are necessary for this type of treatment. The Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis follows the principle that is the basis of this new therapeutic structure. This principle is supported by several discoveries and suggests a quite common-sense conclusion: a child with a healthy mind is brought up by a parent with a healthy mind. A child grows up within two important relationships, which are the relationship between a child and his/her mother and that between a child and his/her father; radical psychoanalytic therapy follows this model. Thus, the new therapeutic structure mentioned above is a premise of radical psychoanalytic therapy. The method of double psychoanalysis was mentioned in th Digest Version of the Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis. I presented a new idea of the therapeutic environment, which consisted of the new approach of double psychoanalysis. This therapeutic environment and structure now require verification and evaluation. This will be challenging work for researchers. However, to further understanding of the mind,
researchers should engage in this difficult task.
