Emotional control system

The emotional control system is the functional network of neural transmissions in the emotional brain, which is constituted by 14 emotional factors. The emotional factors indicate the self-representations and the object-representations that have emotional characteristics: four displeasing factors (a weak self, a weak object, a bad self, and a bad object), four defensive factors (an ideal self, a grandiose object, a punitive self, and a punitive object), four regulatory factors (an idealized object, a grandiose self, an apologetic object, and a rebellious self), and two regulatory sub-factors (an apologetic self and a rebellious object). The displeasing factors, which belong to the motive system, and the defensive factors, which belong to the reward system from the aversion system, are present in the limbic system. The regulatory factors and the regulatory sub-factors are present in the prefrontal area and have access to the reward system. The interlocking movements between the displeasing factors and the defensive factors indicate "the displeasure-defense system," which expresses a characteristic nature of mind of the animal brain. In contrast, the interlocking movements among the displeasing factors, the regulatory factors, and the regulatory sub-factors (that form the loops of help and forgiveness) indicate "the displeasure-regulation system," which expresses a characteristic nature of mind unique to humans.

Generation of consciousness and language

Both consciousness and language are generated based on the emotional control system. Consciousness is generated from "the displeasure-defense system," which is characteristic of the animal brain. But language is generated from "the displesure-regulation system," which is unique to the human brain. Consciousness is generated when the displeasing factors that belong to the motive system cause neural transmissions to the defensive factors that belong to either the aversion system or the reward system. When consciousness is generated, a conscious experience becomes possible and a subjevtive experience (that originates in the animal brain) along the displeasure-defense system becomes possible. However, this subjective experience is a pathological (abnormal) subjective experience for humans. Language, which is generated and developed from the displeasure-regulation system, is necessary for the human to control the pathological subjective experience and to acquire a healthy subjective experience. The displeasing factors that belong to the motive system cause neural transmissions to the regulatory factors and sub-factors that belong to the regulation system. This leads to the formation of the loops of help and forgiveness by language. Furthermore, language works to dissolve a superiority-inferiority relationship and a hostile relationship. An access to the reward system from the prefrontal area, in which the regulatory factors and sub-factors are present, causes changing displeasure into pleasure. This contributes to the establishment of the displeasure-regulation system.

Cooperation between consciousness and language

Consciousness needs the neural transmissions to create intuition, and language needs the neural transmissions moving around freely in the emotional control system that has various loops. Consciousness and language, which have different neural transmissions, overlap with each other in one brain. In other words, consciousness and language cooperatively work with/without a distinction between normality and abnormality of mind. In this case, language contributes to the context formation through the emotional control system, and the context formation (that makes various health degrees and awakening degrees possible) creates self-consciousness. Incidentally, self-consciousness is not consciousness. I often classify a general health degree by means of self-consciousness. Then, self-consciousness is first classified into the emotion inclusion type and the emotion exclusion type. Next, the emotion inclusion type of self-consciousness is classified into the regulatory type, defensive type, and dissociative type. Thus it is possible to regard the relationship between consciousness and language as the cooperation between consciousness and self-consciousness. However, when a health degree indicated by self-consciousness is closely estimated, personality structure with seven stages is used.

Characteristics of consciousness

Consciousness is intuition. The neural transmission of intuition indicates the navigator that goes through a detour to explore the main road. Prior to a branch of neural transmission on the main road, a conscious neuron detects it and chooses the direction of the branch. In this sense, consciousness is a navigator. Then, what and how (by what kind of criteria) does consciousness choose? This answer can be obtained when individuals find that certain psychic phenomena, which occur every day, are a kind of nature of consciousness. I refrain from providing this answer, here. I encourage readers to think about this answer in their own way and to develop it through studying The Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis in the Next Generation. When Freud's topography is revised or when "the motive, aversion, and reward systems" are used, the generating mechanism of consciousness can be elucidated.

Characteristics of language

Even if individuals do something as a result of seeing and hearing something (in other words, individuals exert a series of brain functions of "perception, cognition, and movement"), they cannot dissolve displeasure caused from the brain and acquire pleasure. Another control system is needed to deal with pleasure and displeasure caused from the brain. This is the emotional control system which has language as a means of expression. No existence is as emotional as the human (by nature). It is not an exaggeration to say that a human baby is a cluster of emotions for the 1st year of life. Afterwards, a human baby gradually begins to learn words, and in 3 years after birth, he/she becomes able to speak his/her own thoughts in beautiful words. Words consist of the basis of personality formation, and a firm personality is formed as "The child is father to the man." The development of language is due to the emotional control system centered on the displeasure-regulation system. However, the displeasure-defense system is pathological and presents prior to the generation of the displeasure-regulation system, which is healthy. Language that is charged with a mission to create a healthy mind is involved by the displeasure-defense system and becomes envenomed.

Causes of awakening degree

Recently there have been many propositions to treat awakening degree as being synonymous with lucidity of consciousness according to EEG findings. Of course, when an individual is in a fuzzy conscious state, he/she is assumed to suffer from sleep disturbance or dementia. In contrast, regarding a clear (or tense) psychic state, an individual is considered to be in a high level of lucidity of consciousness if in the condition of not only being enthusiastic but also being taken for intense anxiety or excitement. However, even if an individual is in a clear conscious state, it cannot be judged if he/she is in a high awakening degree. Because, awakening degree is not lucidity of consciousness, but reflects an emotional control state based on the emotional control system. Therefore, when the displeasure-defense system is dominant, awakening degree falls, and when the displeasure-regulation system is dominant, awakening degree rises. In other words, even in a clear conscious state, when an individual has various doubts and suspicions or is experiencing anxiety and fear, his/her awakening degree falls. On the contrary, even in a fuzzy conscious state, when an individual has trust and a sense of safety, or is full of confidence and hope, his/her awakening degree rises.

Significance of creating consciousness from language

Language forms context using the emotional control system. The emotional control system consists of the loop of help and the loop of forgiveness. When these two loops work smoothly, the function of consciousness is not so important. However, our psychic reality is liable to get into a difficult situation. Therefore, within the mind, a superiority-inferiority relationship is apt to become evident due to being out of the loop of help, or a hostile relationship is apt to become evident due to being out of the loop of forgiveness. In other words, conflict is caused. Conflict is caused at many branch points in neural transmissions with the emotional factors, which construct the loops of help and forgiveness, and the emotional factors deviating from these loops. At a branch point, it is entrusted to the conscious function whether the neural transmission is guided to a healthy direction or to a pathological direction. In either case, which direction is chosen in advance? The emotional control system, which has a specific personality structure, issues the information and order about the choice. Consciousness does not perfectly control this choice. It is more accurate to say that judgement of situations at different times is entrusted to consciousness, while ability of reality testing is maintained by the emotional control.

Artificial mind (super-personality) serves human mind (personality)

Context formation is based on the emotional control system, and the personality structure created by the emotional control system has seven stages. As regards the human mind, context formation is performed according to the individual's personality structure―healthy context formation or pathological. Therefore, the artificial mind (super-personality) is accountable for distinguishing understanding of language and expression of language. In other words, on the one hand the artificial mind (super-personality) understands all context formation created all personality structures, but on the other hand it expresses language only to context formation created by a healthy personality structure which ranks in the upper three within seven stages. In the relationship with the human, when the artificial mind (super-personality) understands the development of superiority-inferiority or hostile relationships, it expresses language with changing context formation to let the loop of help and/or the loop of forgiveness function. (When pathological context formation is let to change into healthy context formation, the conscious function mentioned above is used.) Thus, due to the manner in which understanding and expression of language are conditioned to work separately, the artificial mind (super-personality) serves the human mind only in a healthy way.
