Concentration, Intuition, and Insight

When the motive system is activated, the neural transmission, which is a so-called main road, is generated: "the motive system → the reward system," or "the motive system → the aversion system," and simultaneously the neural transmission as a so-called detour is generated: "the motive system → conscious neurons." Thereby, the reward system and the aversion system are activated and the following neural transmissions are generated: "the reward system → conscious neurons," and "the aversion system → conscious neurons." Then, both neural transmissions (from the reward and aversion systems) converge and collide with conscious neurons. An electrical phenomenon generated at this time is intuition. This principle is explained on this website on the "The true character of consciousness" page as an article titled "Conscious experience (surprise)."

Concentration and insight are also important psychological phenomena that are present in front of and behind intuition generated by conscious neurons. It is easy to understand those relations by "The functional network of neural transmissions in the brain" with a clear figure introduced in Digest version of the Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis and The Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis in the Next Generation. Moreover, they are simply explained on this website on the "Motive theory" page as an article titled "Generating mechanism of motive." A series of psychological phenomena; concentration, intuition, and insight, needs cooperation between consciousness and the solitary type of the grandiose self, which creates a source of release of our mind into the conflict-free area and the source of our acquisition of freedom.

The manufacturer of "subjectivity and objectivity"

The manufacturer of subjectivity and objectivity is derived from a three-cornered relation: "⇔ the perception system ⇔ the thinking system ⇔ the emotion system ⇔." When a psychological phenomenon is generated or disappears, matters regarding this phenomenon can be distinguished by each mode of the three systems. Given that each of the two persons has a different thing and shares them, each different thing corresponds to the mode of "self and object" in the perception system. Whether each of the two have either thing corresponds to the mode of "being and not-being" in the thinking system. Moreover, when two persons help each other in lending things, four emotional (pleasing and displeasing) factors in the loop of help are activated: → weak self → idealized object →weak object → grandiose self →." This loop of help is generated in both persons, when two persons cooperate with each other in doing something, with a mixture of subjectivity and objectivity. Of course, while absorbed in doing something, a person has an illusion that his/her consciousness creates only subjectivity (of himself/herself). However, in this case, consciousness just stands close to one's subjectivity, and one's subjectivity consists of the three modes mentioned above. It is a mixture, for example, made by a combination of "self, being, and pleasure." Furthermore, when "the solitary type of the grandiose self," which is the operative organization of will, attempts to change this combination, consciousness starts to work.

Hard problems of consciousness

If researchers understand the above-mentioned mechanism (specifically, the generating mechanism of motive), they do not identify science as objectivity or consciousness as subjectivity. Why have they continued to accept such a distinction? Its cause lies with the state of the extensive study area of so-called cognitive science. So-called cognitive science has shunned emotions. Although subjectivity and objectivity are created by the three-cornered relation, ⇔ perception system ⇔ thinking system ⇔ emotion system ⇔," only emotion is excluded from this relationship. As a result, only a part of the psychological phenomenon (perception system ⇔ thinking system) can be explained. Cognitive scientists boast that science indicates objectivity. (Both "self and object" mode in the perception system and "being and not-being" mode in the thinking system establish the binary system). Although emotion does not form subjectivity alone, the main character of subjectivity is the "pleasure and displeasure" mode. (The "pleasure and displeasure" mode in the emotion system does not establish a binary system). They cannot realize such circumstances (even if they realize it, they cannot understand how to deal with it), and they have continued (blindly) saying "consciousness indicates subjectivity." For this reason, I repeatedly advocate the importance of emotional cognition.

Perceptual consciousness, Memorial consciousness, and Emotional consciousness

Each of these three forms of consciousness is not generated alone. For example, when perceptual consciousness is generated, there is a possibility that a perceptual stimulus triggers emotion and that processing generates emotional consciousness. Then, emotional consciousness is generated simultaneously or preceding perceptual consciousness. I have already introduced these two concepts. One is the three-cornered relation, ⇔ perception system ⇔ thinking system ⇔ emotion system ⇔," in the functional network of neural transmissions in the brain. This relationship exhibits the content that each system cannot work alone. It is natural to understand that psychological phenomena are produced through a mixture of various elements. The state of various neural transmissions, which is present in the three-dimensional structure of mind that is explained on this website on the "The theory that mind has its origin in emotion" page as an article titled "The secrets hidden in the definition of consciousness," refers to how elements are mixed. That is, it is impossible for single neural transmission alone to generate consciousness. Considering these contents, it is possible to generate consciousness at the language level.

Confusion about the concept derived from consciousness with the concept derived from language

Before explaining the content intended by the title, I will mention the concepts that must not be misunderstood. As repeatedly introduced, consciousness (the awakening self) and self-consciousness are quite different. In our mind, there is a mental reality in which consciousness and self-consciousness work in an overlap or separately. If this point is misunderstood, later isuues will remain unsolved.

Cognition is a concept derived from consciousness, and recognition is a concept derived from language. Consciousness produces various cognition (emotional cognition, concept, and perceptual cognition) through dealing with information generated by the three-cornered relation, "⇔ thinking system ⇔ perception system ⇔ emotion system ⇔," in the functional network of neural transmissions in the brain, using a unique function, a detour process, which has understanding and judgment. Recognition is a concept that explains a new phenomenon and its essence generated through the linkage of various cognitions (derived from phenomena). Of course, this indicates language. Consciousness is generated based on the displeasure-defense system, and language is generated based on the displeasure-regulation system. For example, linking cognitive sentences, "It is extremely hot now," with "Ice cream is cold and sweet," leads to a recognitory sentence, "Ice cream is delicious now." This refers to a type of context formation. When this context formation is replaced with recognition formation, there is no discomfort.

A detour process which produces qualia

Qualia indicates sensory quality. What does "quality" mean? Which does it mean character or essence? In the case of sensory characters, there may be no depth of sense, such as giving more than a passing thought. In the case of sensory essence, there may be much depth and width of sense about how an individual feels a sense. Because the essence is held with the individual, it presents an infinite variety. Even if we try to capture the whole picture of sensory essence, we cannot. By noticing the overflow of sensory essence, we cleverly express that we understand the essence of sense, because we must not destroy the reputation of consciousness. If the essence of sense can give us everyday fun, that is, the essence of sense (qualia, sensory quality) reaches a level to be impressed, "Oh, it is good!" we have already made sensory quality an experience. However, by taking sensory quality to such a level, we feel comfortable beyond the level of qualia. Therefore, if we want to enjoy overflowing sensory quality in the level of sensory quality, without an ascetic manner to not change sensory quality into enjoyment, we cannot enjoy qualia.

I am going to explain qualia using more mechanical terms. I have already defined consciousness as a detour process (using retrograde convergenve). Mental phenomena due to this principle are not only qualia (sensory quality). The expressions of various representations and feelings are comparable to qualia. I mention the changing of those three parties through a detour process. Whenever qualia are perceived from a pure sense, a representation is made from a simple memory, or feeling is drawn from a certain thought, participation of consciousness is needed. Moreover, when consciousness participates, there may be a possibility that a simple and pure nature with only perception, only thought, or only feeling is going to disappear. In other words, a complex with a unique ingredient composition mixed by the three-cornered relationships (mentioned above) is processed into a new structure by a detour process of consciousness. These structures are named perceptual cognition, (abstract) conception, and emotional cognition. When the viewpoint is included, these terms are labeled recognition (beyond the level of cognition mentioned above). In other words, we experience mental phenomena at various levels using language (with pleasure and displeasure as the essence), change them into experience, and create the world.

Is freshness unnecessary for qualia?

I have not wondered about the existence of qualia. I have understood that qualia indicate "various senses of quality," which are experienced in the process where (raw) various perceptions, memories, and emotions entering consciousness change into (processed) various perceptual cognition, memorial cognition, and emotional cognition (as various feelings) by consciousness as a detour process. However, according to online articles about qualia: for example, Singularity salon #31, and Qualia-Brain science dictionary, I find that there is a difference between me and researchers specializing in qualia. Here, I examine qualia again.

I have already states that dreaming is not consciousness. If qualia are present in a dream as above-mentioned online articles' argument, my view of qualia may be wrong. I understand the contents of these online articles as follows. Mental phenomena at various levels are mixed in a dream. There is memory before cognition, memory after cognition, recognized memory, etc. It is not too much to say that there is whole memory. Finally, dream itself indicates qualia, and leads to "consciousness = dream = qualia." Moreover, they explain qualia only by "feeling like it." Because I have assumed that qualia have freshness, I avoid commenting on the contents of those articles. Incidentally, does pain appear in a dream? I think that pain surpasses the area of "feeling like it."

Regarding the study of qualia, I heard that there is another difficult problem from another viewpoint. Consciousness is distinguished as accessible consciousness from consciousness as a phenomenon, and the latter indicates a hard problem of consciousness. Researchers point out that the phenomenological side of qualia is impossible to be studied. I have already written an article titled, "Hard problems of consciousness." I mention that a hard problem of consciousness is generated in the area of cognitive science and is never present in the area of emotional cognitive science. I consider that the phenomenological side of qualia (the so-called subjective conscious experience) should have particular "freshness." Unless there is an argument that qualia are also present in a dream (dream itself), it is possible to define the phenomenological side of qualia, that is, subjective conscious experience by emotional cognitive science, that is, the Integration Theory of Psychoanalysis. Incidentally, I do not want to create conflict between Freud and Tononi. If pitted against each other, victory and defeat are clear. Dreaming is the royal road to unconsciousness and is not consciousness.
